Day two of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2025 is poised to witness a blockbuster clash between two of the best sides in world hockey. The mighty Belgian Red Lions will take on India in a league match of the annual invitational tournament on Monday (November 24) at the Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh.

Coached by Shane McLeod, who guided the Red Lions to an FIH World Cup gold in 2018, followed by an Olympic gold in 2021, Belgium are the highest-ranked side in the ongoing tournament.

Despite the absence of Tom Boon, Belgium have several stalwarts in the squad who are capable of giving the young Indian team a testing time in their second pool game.

Craig Fulton's chargers overcame a gritty Korean side 1-0 in their rain-delayed opener, which ended at midnight local time and will need to recover well enough to take on the might of the Belgians.

Belgium, meanwhile, were briefly stunned by the Canadians, who defended stoutly before taking the lead off a penalty corner just before half-time. Despite stitching together numerous forays, the former world champions faltered near the goalmouth while also being denied by some exceptional defending and goalkeeping.

A late goal enabled the Belgians to secure a draw and a vital point, but needless to say, McLeod's team will look to make amends when they take on India.

Unlike the Indians, who have rested Krishan Pathak and Suraj Karkera for the tournament, the Belgian citadel is being guarded by veteran goalkeeper Vincent Vanasch alongside Loic Van Doren.

Master drag-flicker Alexander Hendrickx, who failed to find the target against Canada, has an ominous record against the Indians in the past. Arthur van Doren is captaining the team at Ipoh with the likes of Arthur de Sloover, Victor Wegnez and Nicolas de Kerpel in the ranks.

The absence of several key Indian players like Harmanpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh gives the Belgians a distinct edge ahead of the contest, but Craig Fulton will be keen to justify his squad selection for the Azlan Shah Cup

India vs Belgium: Azlan Shah Cup Prediction

Scoring from penalty corners was not easy for either India or Belgium in their respective openers, but Alexander Hendrickx's prowess can scarcely be disregarded. The Indian defence will need to ensure that they do not concede too many short corners while also not exposing Pawan and Mohith to the rampaging Belgian strikers. If Abhishek, Sukhjeet Singh and Dilpreet Singh can combine well enough in the danger zone, the Indians have a good chance of emerging victorious in what promises to be a cracker of a contest.

Score Prediction: India 3 - 2 Belgium
