Mumbai Smashers, a franchise assembled by Absolute Sports, backed by Nazara Technologies, made a roaring comeback to qualify for the Indian Pickleball League 2025. Just 48 hours ago, the Smashers were winless in the tournament, but now, they are all set to play the final of the six-team league.
The Smashers sneaked into the Top 4 with a fantastic win against the Capital Warriors Gurgaon in their final tie of the league stage. Then, the Smashers beat Gurgaon by 25-24 in Decider 1, followed by 25-22 win against the Bengaluru Blasters in Decider 2 to officially qualify for the playoffs.
The play-off matches began on December 6, where the Hyderabad Royals won their Qualifier 1 match against the tabletoppers Chennai Super Warriors. Hyderabad became the first team to qualify for the final.
Mumbai Smashers knocked the third-placed Lucknow Leopards out of the tournament by defeating them 4-2 in the Eliminator. Quang Duong won the men's singles match, and next, he joined forces with Ammol Ramchandani to win the men's doubles match.
Lucknow bounced back by winning the women's singles and women's doubles matches, but Mumbai sealed their place in Qualifier 2 with a top-quality performance in the Grand Rally. Mumbai won the Grand Rally by 21-19 against Lucknow.
Quang Duong powers Mumbai Smashers to Indian Pickleball League 2025 Final
Talking about the Qualifier 2 match, Mumbai Smashers avenged their previous defeat against the Chennai Super Warriors with a 4-2 win against them. Like the Eliminator match, Quang Duong won the men's singles match and then he won the men's double contest with Ammol.
Mumbai forfeited the women's singles match and lost the women's doubles match, taking the game down to the Grand Rally. Once again, Mumbai brought their 'A' game to the table in the Grand Rally and won it to secure a place in the grand finale.
The final of the inaugural Indian Pickleball League tournament will take place between Mumbai Smashers and Hyderabad Royals on December 7 in Delhi. The match will begin at 6.30pm IST.
