Indian Pickleball League 2025: Mumbai Smashers lose despite Quang Duong's brilliance; Chennai qualify for playoffs

The fourth day of the Indian Pickleball League 2025 tournament is officially in the history books. Mumbai Smashers continued to be winless in the competition. Despite Quang Duong's impressive performance, the Smashers went down by 2-4 in their tie against the Hyderabad Royals.

The Smashers entered the tie against the Royals desperately looking for a win. In their last three ties, the Smashers recorded one draw and two defeats.

Against Hyderabad, Mumbai gained a 2-0 lead, thanks to Quang Duong's unbelievable 15-2 win against Tejas Gulati in men's singles, followed by a 15-11 win for Quang and Anmol Ramchandani against Ben Newell and Divyanshu Kataria.

However, Hyderabad bounced back strongly by winning the women's singles, women's doubles and Grand Rally matches to win the tie by 4-2. It was a disappointing result for the Mumbai Smashers because this defeat has significantly reduced their chances of qualifying for the next round of the tournament.

Chennai Super Warriors become 1st team to qualify for the Indian Pickleball League 2025 playoffs

While Mumbai Smashers are on the verge of an early elimination, the Chennai Super Warriors have officially qualified for the playoffs by registering their fourth consecutive win of the season. Chennai defeated the Bengaluru Blasters in their fourth tie to seal their place in the next round of the tournament.

In the other tie held during the triple-header on December 4, the Lucknow Leopards played out a thrilling draw against Capital Warriors Gurgaon. Lucknow won the men's singles match, but Gurgaon gained a 3-1 lead by winning the men's doubles, women's singles and women's doubles match of the tie.

It all came down to the Grand Rally, where Lucknow beat Gurgaon by 21-12 to level the scores 3-3. It was the second draw of the Indian Pickleball League 2025 season. Previously, Mumbai and Lucknow played out a draw as well.
