Role of Avi Schwartzman in GTA Online

Avi Schwartzman in GTA Online is best known as a highly skilled but extremely paranoid hacker. Lester describes him as someone who’s brilliant with tech but constantly afraid of being tracked or captured. That paranoia shows up directly in his first in-game appearance.

He originally entered GTA Online during the classic Heists update, playing a key role in the Pacific Standard storyline.

Appearance in A Safehouse in the Hills

Along with Michael, the Mansions DLC trailer confirms Avi Schwartzman’s return once again. He briefly appears alongside the player character on a boat, with the two seemingly searching for something. At the moment, he’s the only previously known character confirmed to reappear, which suggests Rockstar still sees value in his role as a specialist hacker connected to major operations.

While details about his involvement remain unclear, his history with Lester and repeated appearances during high-stakes content make him a natural fit for another major storyline.

First appearance: Pacific Standard Signal mission

Avi’s debut happens during the Pacific Standard - Signal setup mission. At this point, Lester sends players to track him down and hand over a transponder recovered earlier from the Pacific Standard Vans job. Avi’s task is to tune the crew into the Pacific Standard Bank’s frequency.

Diamond Casino Heist: unlocking Avi as a hacker

Avi returns years later during the Diamond Casino Heist, but this time he isn’t available right away. He has to be unlocked. To recruit him as a hacker for the heist you must destroy 50 signal jammers scattered across Los Santos.

Once unlocked, Avi becomes one of the top-tier hacker options for the casino job, reinforcing his reputation as one of the best in the game when it comes to digital intrusion.

Los Santos Tuners DLC appearance

Avi Schwartzman in GTA Online shows up again during the Los Santos Tuners DLC, though in a more indirect role. Instead of interacting with players face-to-face, he provides a contract mission through KDJ and Sessanta. That contract revolves around robbing Don Percival, the CEO of Merryweather Security.

While Avi stays largely behind the scenes here, his involvement keeps his character relevant in GTA Online’s expanding criminal network.
