PGA and European Tour player Viktor Hovland is a professional golfer from Norway. He was born on September 18, 1997. Following his victory in the 2018 U.S. Amateur, he shot to the top of the World Amateur Golf Ranking in 2019.

After going professional in 2019, Hovland earned his PGA Tour card for the 2020 season. He further made history by being the first Norwegian to win on both circuits at the 2020 PGA Tour Puerto Rico Open and the 2021 European Tour BMW International Open. He has since won five more PGA Tour events, the most recent of which was the 2023 Tour Championship, which resulted in his first FedEx Cup title.

Hovland participated in the Masters and the PGA Championship in 2023, but he was unable to secure his first major win. In the final round at Augusta, he shot 74 to tie for seventh place. He finished two shots short of Brooks Koepka after finishing at the PGA Championship with a final round of 68 as a runner-up.

Viktor Hovland’s Caddie

Viktor Hovland’s caddie is Shay Knight as of July 2024.

Prior to working with Hovland, Knight caddied for players including Matt Jones, Aron Price, DJ Trahan, Martin Laird, Chez Reavie, Jerry Kelly, and Sean O'Hair. He has been doing this for almost 16 years. The fact that Knight prefers Pebble Beach as his favorite caddie course and Old Sandwich as his favorite playing course are two more intriguing facts about him.

Early in 2019, Hovland had his Oklahoma State collegiate coach Alan Bratton on the bag, but he desired a more permanent caddie in place as he prepared to turn pro. Joe Skovron, Rickie Fowler's caddie, played a role here, as he asked Knight to caddie for Hovland after he turned professional, to which Knight said yes. Rickie and Viktor both went to OSU, and so they know each other.

Hovland and Knight met at the 2019 Mayakoba Golf Classic and made their official debut together at the 2019 Travelers Championship, where he finished tied for 54th place. As the young Norwegian has climbed the world rankings, Knight has caddied Hovland to ten professional wins. As of July 2024, Hovland's Official World Golf Rankings are No. 7, with a career high of No. 3 in 2022.

As far as his earnings are concerned, Knight makes between $1,500 and $3,000 a week as a base income, but his exact earnings are unknown because caddies and players have separate contracts.

Outside of the top 10, caddies on the PGA Tour typically expect winnings of about 5%. If a player places in the top 10, that percentage rises to roughly six or eight percent. Caddies can also make money from sponsorships by wearing a cap with a logo, like Knight does by wearing a Ping cap.
