On Sunday, December 14, AJ Ewart carded a 4-under 66 to earn medalist honors at the PGA Tour Q-School. The 26-year-old Canadian finished at 14-under to win the event by a two-stroke margin.
Ewart was born on May 7, 1999 to Brad and Hiroko Ewart in Coquitlam, Canada. He attended Gleneagle Secondary School, where he had his first interaction with golf. He played for the Canadian National Team and became a Provincial Juvenile Champion. He also finished in the top-five at the Canadian Amateur, was a 2-time Provincial Player of the Year and won the Canadian Player of the Year award. He also won the Sunriver Junior Open in 2015 at the age of 16.
Ewart joined Barry University for higher education and also played college golf. In his Freshman year, he claimed two titles and had three top-12 finishes. He won the GOLFWEEK DII Fall Invitational at -8, finished in a tie for seventh at the Copperhead Championship and was named a member of the All-South Region team and the GCAA All-Freshman Team. He also won the team’s Player of the Year award as well as the Newcomer of the Year award in 2020.
AJ Ewart continued to impress in his sophomore and junior years and made multiple top-15 finishes. He also tied Adam Svensson for the school's record of most wins (7). His wins included the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional and he was named the NCAA Division II Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year. He was also awarded the SSC Player of the Year and First-Team All-SSC honors.
After a prolific collegiate golf career, Ewart turned professional in 2023 and joined the PGA Tour Americas. He continued his great run on the pro circuit as well. The Canadian prodigy won the Sandpiper Open 2024 on the Vancouver Tour and the Elk Ridge Saskatchewan Open presented by Lake Country Co-Op on the Americas Tour.
After making four top-ten finishes in 16 starts this season, AJ Ewart nearly missed earning a Korn Ferry Tour card in a playoff. However, bigger things were in store for him, as he is set to make his debut as a PGA Tour pro next year.
