Tiger Woods isn’t competing at this year’s event, as he continues to recover from his seventh back surgery in October. However, he has been cleared to chip and putt and has spent some time in practice. Meanwhile, his son Charlie Woods has been a familiar presence around the course this week.

Scheffler heads into the final round with a chance to make history as the first player to win the Hero World Challenge three consecutive times. He opened the tournament with a 66, 6-under par, followed by a 69, 3-under on Friday, and carded a 65, 7-under, on Saturday.

Tiger Woods opens up about Charlie Woods’ fast-moving college recruitment

Tiger Woods offered an inside look at Charlie Woods’ rapidly shifting recruitment journey this week, saying that the process today moves at a pace he never experienced in his own junior days. Charlie is still uncommitted despite being one of the top prospects in the Class of 2027.

Tiger explained that the modern system has changed everything for young players and their families. He recalled how recruits used to wait for letters in the mail.

"It's been very different, the recruiting process. Now you have cell phones. We didn't have cell phones. We would have written letters that would show up in the mailbox. 'Oh, my God, I got a letter,'" Tiger Woods said, via Golfweek.
"It's just very different how fast coaches can communicate with the family members and the player that they're trying to recruit. It's just a different world."

Tiger said that he enjoyed watching his son create opportunities through his performances and explore the programs where he could see himself playing.

"Not saying it's good or bad, it's just different. It's fun to be a part of the process with Charlie and go through it and see where the opportunities that he has that he has created for himself by playing better, places that he could play, wants to play and ultimately we'll decide where he wants to go play."

Charlie Woods enters the year ranked 13th in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). His 2025 season included his first AJGA win at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in March, along with a standout hole-in-one at TPC Sawgrass during the summer. He also helped The Benjamin School secure a state championship title, posting a team-low 68 in the final round to seal the victory.
