Now, the golfer has hinted at a possibility of him taking up the mantle for 2027.Woods, making his first public appearance since undergoing surgery in October, was asked if he would be captaining the US Ryder Cup team in 2027. The 49-year-old reiterated that ‘no one has asked’ him about him taking over the role. He made the comment with a smirk. For the unversed, the ace golfer also didn’t clarify whether he would be open to playing at the event if called upon.Replying to a Ryder Cup captaincy question at a press conference ahead of the Hero World Challenge 2025, Tiger Woods said, as quoted by Sports Illustrated:“No one’s asked me.”The reporter swiftly shot back by saying, ‘I’m asking you about it.’ However, the PGA Tour legend reiterated the same four words with a smile.Tiger Woods declined 2025 Ryder Cup captaincyTiger Woods declined an offer to captain the 2025 US squad at Bethpage Black. The ace golfer, who has been suffering from injuries over the past few years, cited schedule constraints as reason. The 49-year-old later revealed clarifying his position to outgoing PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh and repeated that he could not fully commit to the duties due to existing responsibilities which includes his PGA Tour Policy Board role and TGL, the simulator league he co-founded.Tiger Woods said ahead of The 152nd Open at Royal Troon in Scotland, as quoted by NBC Sports:“I told Seth (Waugh) that I just didn’t feel like I could do the job properly. I couldn’t devote the time. I barely had enough time to do what I’m doing now… and add all that concurrently going on at exactly the same time, there’s only so many hours in the day. I just didn’t feel like I would be doing the captaincy or the players on Team USA justice if I was the captain with everything I have to do.”Furthermore, Woods dubbed it a “very difficult decision.” However, the Ryder Cup veteran lauded the appointment of 38-year-old Keegan Bradley to the role despite not having any prior experience as a captain or assistant captain.Woods said:“I think Keegan (Bradley) is going to be a great leader. He’s very passionate about what he does. He’s very passionate about the event. I think that this is going to probably be a turnover year for us for the captaincies, whether it’s the captain itself or his vice captains. I think this is the natural progression, one we’ve been looking forward to, and I think it’s that year.”Interestingly, Woods later joked about Bradley not consulting him for a vice-captaincy role for 2025. Ryder Cup now heads to Adare Manor in Ireland in 2027 with the captaincy role still up for Wood’s grabs.
