Tiger Woods has received a lot of buzz to potentially become the captain of Team USA in the 2027 Ryder Cup. He is unquestionably one of the most well-known figures in the golf industry and is admired by all golfers worldwide. As captain, Woods can not only provide valuable insights to other golfers about the tournament, but he can also be an excellent leader.

Former Team USA captain Keegan Bradley has brought these pointers to light in a recent interview. Bradley, who lost the 2025 Ryder Cup as captain of Team USA, recently did an interview in which he discussed the value of being a captain and how you are chosen for it.

Bradley noted that while he lost and wants to be captain again, he is unable to decide, and he, too, thinks Tiger Woods should take the role for the aforementioned qualities he has. According to Daily Express US, he explained,

"Of course, I would love to do it again. I would love to avenge that loss, but that's not up to me. I think if Tiger wants to do this, he's going to do it. Tiger is not only a hero to all of us that would be on his team, but he's also an incredible leader and a person that everyone would love to play for. But I'm pretty sure when he wants to do this, he's going to be able to do it."

On the other hand, Woods has responded to the buzz about him being the potential captain by claiming no one has asked him about it. He stated,

"No one's asked me."

Currently, Tiger Woods is out of professional golf due to a back surgery he underwent in October 2025. He had lower back disc replacement surgery, and his recovery from it has not been as expected.

Woods' October surgery was his ninth back surgery, and his recovery so far has been pretty slow. The 82-time PGA Tour winner recently stated that disc replacement surgery has no specific recovery time and that there is nothing that can be done about it. The golfer also stated that he can currently perform some rotational movement, though not much.

According to ESPN, the 15-time major winner stated,

"It's been slow. Not able to do much on a disk replacement to let it set; can't really do much. Now, we got the OK to start cranking up a little bit in the gym, started strengthening and started doing a little bit more of the rotational component that I haven't been able to do, just letting the disk kind of set."

Tiger Woods has been medically cleared for chipping and putting, although he is still unable to hit big drives due to his recovery period.
