Golf analyst Brandel Chamblee opened up about the changes made on the PGA Tour. He has been an avid supporter of the circuit and is pretty active on social media.
On Friday, he shared a lengthy post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, in which he provided a detailed analysis of the PGA Tour. He talked about the Tour reducing the “number of exempt” players and its schedule. He wrote:
"I would argue that with the PGA Tour reducing the number of exempt players and apparently headed towards a schedule that emphasizes scarcity over ubiquity, it risks looking more like LIV than differentiating itself from it."
Moreover, Brandel Chamblee also talked about professional golf. He added:
"Every prior commissioner has emphasized player opportunity, and given that the PGA Tour is a “players organization” this made sense. It further made sense because professional golf is the only sport where the difference between the #1 player and the #150th player is a rounding error and in every other sport it is a chasm.
"At the very time the PGA Tour should be expanding it is constricting, becoming less about accessibility and more exclusivity, which undermines its goals of being all about meritocracy," he wrote.
Since the emergence of LIV Golf, the PGA Tour has made several changes to its circuit. It has introduced limited-field signature events with elevated prize pools. It has also reduced the size of the full-field tournament from 156 to 144.
The 2025 PGA Tour fall season has recently come to an end, and players are enjoying the offseason before the start of the new season in January. The 2025 LIV Golf season also concluded with its finale in August, and the next season is set to begin in February.

While there is still time for the start of the new PGA Tour season, next month, some of the top-ranked golfers will compete in the inaugural Optum Golf Channel Games. The event will take place on Dec. 17 at Trump National Golf Club in Florida. It will feature two teams led by Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
Brandel Chamblee opened up about the tournament and shared its details in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Nov. 26. He wrote:
"Captains Scheffler and Mcilroy and their teams in a skills challenge and a timed shootout that might make @markwahlberg envious. December 17th."
The inaugural edition of the Optum Golf Games will be available to watch on Golf Channel and the USA Network, starting at 7:30 p.m. ET. Scheffler’s team consists of U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and Sam Burns, along with Luke Clanton, while McIlroy’s team includes Shane Lowry, Luke Donald, and Haotong Li.
