Shane Lowry admits being 'conscious' about one thing, says he gets 'obsessed' with physique

Shane Lowry opened up about his fitness in a recent interview. The Irish golfer is enjoying some time away from the greens these days after the wrap of the DP World Tour season.

In an interview with The Irish Times, he talked about fitness, health, and also reflected on being “conscious” about his “weight.” He spoke about playing at a “competitive” level at the age of 45 and also reflected on his trainer. He said:

"Look, I’ve always been conscious about my weight. Right? And I’ve always been that way, and I’ve always wanted to lose weight, and I kind of get obsessed with it at times, but having someone like Robbie, who knows the ins-and-outs and knows the way to do it.

“I trust him on what he does. So yeah, I think we’ve done a good job of getting it right. And I still have a long way to go, I still am working towards some goals that I have in that regards and I’m trying to get stronger, I’m trying to get faster, I’m trying to hit the ball further," he added.

Shane Lowry is enjoying a break after his last outing at the DP World Tour Championship. He was impressive with his game in the tournament, carding rounds of 68, 67, 71, and 69 to finish in a tie for 11th place. He also had notable finishes on the circuit, such as T3 at the DP World India Championship, T12 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, and T15 at the Amgen Irish Open.

On the PGA Tour, he came close to a win at the Truist Championship but settled for a T2 finish. He was also the runner-up at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Some of his other notable finishes on the tour include a solo seventh at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T8 at the Valspar Championship, and T13 at the RBC Canadian Open.

Shane Lowry eyes winning a major in 2026

Shane Lowry had an amazing time playing in 2025 and is now looking forward to the 2026 season. In the interview with The Irish Times, he talked about winning a major. He said:

"I just need to keep knocking on the door. I need to keep building that consistency. I’ve got some goals where I really would like to win again. I want to contend in the Majors. Obviously, you’re not going to have everything, but the one thing I can do is focus on what I do day to day. And that’s what I’ve been doing. I think I’ve been doing it very well over the last while.”

Shane Lowry won The Open Championship back in 2019. He defeated Tommy Fleetwood by six strokes to win his maiden major title.

This year, he played in all four majors but struggled in two of them. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. He finished tied for 42nd at the Masters and recorded a T40 finish at The Open Championship.
