Rory McIlroy is set to extend his unique record at the 2025 DP World Tour Championship. The Northern Irish golfer is playing this week in Dubai, and if, after the event, he manages to secure the top position in the Race to Dubai standings, he could earn a bonus of $2 million.McIlroy is in contention to finish in the top position in the Race to Dubai standings for the fourth straight year. He first topped the list in 2012 and then in 2014 and 2015. However, since then, it took him a few years to wrap up the season sitting top in the Race to Dubai standings. It would be interesting to see if he could defend his title this week in Dubai.Rory McIlroy reflects on his Race to Dubai positionAhead of the start of the 2025 DP World Tour Championship, in a pre-tournament press conference held on Tuesday, Rory McIlroy was asked about his pole position in the Race to Dubai standings.The 2025 Masters winner said that he is looking forward to having a similar outing to what he had last week at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and shared his excitement for this week’s event. He said (via ASAP Sports):"It looked like I was probably going to have a similar cushion over Marco to what I had last week. I was able to turn it on on the back nine and make a few birdies and give myself a chance to win the tournament, but also a little bit more of a lead going in here.So I thought last week was overall pretty good. I certainly played really well on the weekend. Found myself in a familiar position going into this week, going out last on Thursday, and you know, be good to tee it up again alongside Marco again. I'm excited for a great week. I feel like my game rounded into some really good form at the weekend, and hopefully I can continue that from Thursday on," she added.Last week in Abu Dhabi, Rory McIlroy played the four rounds of 68, 68, 66, and 62 and settled in a tie for third place. He is leading the Race to Dubai standings with a total of 4640.06 points.Marco Penge is in second place with 3873.04 points. Notably, the top 10 in the standings after the DP World Tour Championship will be eligible to get bonuses from the purse of $6 million. The top finisher will earn $2 million, followed by $1 million for the second-place finisher.The 2025 DP World Tour Championship started with the first round on Thursday and will run through the weekend, with its final day on November 16.
