McIlroy defeated Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff to win the Green Jacket in April. The Northern Irishman became the sixth golfer to win the career grand slam and took his place beside Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

Rory McIlroy recently admitted that it is an overwhelming feeling and also stated that the moment on the 18th green always makes him emotional. The golfer from Holywood, Ireland said:

"It’s an overwhelming feeling... at that point, it probably still hadn’t sunk in, it was such a roller coaster of a day. It’s hard to put into words. I still, if I watch that scene on the 18th green when I drop to my knees, it’s still hard for me not to cry. Whatever it is, 8 or 9 months on, it’s just so hard for me not to feel those emotions again."

Rory McIlroy also confessed that he had been dreaming about that moment for a long time and it finally came true. Indeed, McIlroy's victory in Augusta National came 14 years after his infamous 2011 Masters debacle. The golfer also waited 11 years to win his fifth major.

"A once-in-a-lifetime thing" - When Rory McIlroy shared his feelings regarding the 2025 Masters victory

Before the PGA Championship, McIlroy was asked by the reporters at Quail Hollow about his reaction on the 18th green of Augusta National. The 29-time PGA Tour winner admitted crying while rewatching the moment, stating his reaction was 'involuntary'.

Rory McIlroy also stated that it was a cool and once-in-a-lifetime moment for him (via ASAP Sports):

"I haven't tried to watch it back too much. But anytime I have, I well up. I still feel like I want to cry. It was an involuntary I've never felt a release like that before, and I might never feel a release like that again. That could be a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and it was a very cool moment."

McIlroy let out a scream and dropped to his knees after sinking that birdie putt on the sudden-death playoff hole in Augusta National. The golfer was spotted crying in the arms of his friend-turned-caddie Harry Diamond before giving a warm embrace to his daughter Poppy and wife Erica Stoll.
