Rory McIlroy had almost hit his fellow teammate Shane Lowry at the Optum Golf Channel Games. The Northern Irish golfer led a four-member team at the inaugural edition of the made-for-TV event. McIlroy’s team consisted of Haotong Li, Shane Lowry, and Luke Donald.In the team relay competition, McIlroy hit the shot on the ninth hole, and he almost hit Shane Lowry, who was standing on the other end. Golf Channel shared a video of Rory McIlroy on its X (formerly Twitter) account.In the Optum Golf Channel Games, Team Scheffler won the timed drive event and then also registered a win in the short game. However, in the Team Relay Games, McIlroy’s team dominated on the greens, but then Team Scottie won the 14-club challenge.Finally, in the captain’s challenge, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy played in a one-on-one game, and the world No. 2 registered a win in it. With that, both teams tied for the lead, and in a playoff, Team Scheffler secured the title.Rory McIlroy honored at IGWA awardsRory McIlroy was awarded the Men’s Professional of the Year award at the annual Irish Golf Writers’ Association. He carded four rounds of 66, 70, 65, and 66 and registered a win in the event. It was followed by his outing at The Genesis Invitational, where he played four rounds of 72, 67, 74, and 72 and settled in a tie for 17th place. He won his second event on the PGA Tour of the season at The Players Championship.McIlroy had a fantastic start to his campaign with an opening round of 67 and then played the next three rounds of 68, 73, and 68. He then won the Masters.Some of his other notable finishes on the PGA Tour are T7 at the Truist Championship, T2 at the Genesis Scottish Open, and T12 at the BMW Championship.On the DP World Tour, he won the Amegn Irish Open and was the runner-up at the DP World Tour Championship. His last official tournament of the year was at the Crown Australian Open, where he played four rounds of 72, 68, 68, and 69 to settle in a tie for 14th place.McIlroy had solid finishes on the DP World Tour as well. He was tied for fourth place at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, achieved a T3 finish at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, and finished T20 at the BMW PGA Championship.
