Phil Mickelson has once again made his political take clear, showing support for Republican California gubernatorial candidate Chad Bianco’s criticism of Governor Gavin Newsom. The six-time major winner, who is away from competitive golf, has been active on X, frequently sharing his opinions on political matters.

Mickelson agreed with Bianco’s assessment of Newsom’s leadership. On Wednesday, November 19, Bianco criticized Newsom directly, tweeting:

“Gavin Newsom is unfit for leadership of any kind.”

Mickelson responded with a simple:

“💯”

This is not the first time Mickelson has commented on Newsom-related issues. Recently, he reacted to a post by citizen journalist Andrew Hart about power outages in Los Angeles affecting Crenshaw and South LA. Hart noted that the situation had led to criticism of Newsom. Mickelson quote-tweeted the post, writing:

“Many have known this would happen but didn’t know when exactly it would start. It’s starting.”

For followers of Phil Mickelson on X, such interactions are familiar. The LIV Golf star has often used the platform to voice his disagreement with Newsom’s policies, showing that even while away from the golf course, he remains vocal on political matters in California.

Phil Mickelson takes a dig at Gavin Newsom over his statement on President Trump

Phil Mickelson took a jibe at California Governor Gavin Newsom earlier this November. Newsom celebrated California voters’ support for Proposition 50 and the state’s independent redistricting commission, while also criticizing former President Donald Trump. He said:

“I’m proud, but I’m very mindful and sober of the moment we are living in. Donald Trump does not believe in fair and free elections. Period. Full stop.”

The clip, shared on X by Kevin Dalton, caught Mickelson’s attention. The LIV golfer joked about Newsom’s choice of words in the comments, writing:

“Out of all delirious things he says, why does ‘period. Full stop’ bother me more than all of it?”

Phil Mickelson has also challenged Newsom to town hall debates, including on the Sable Offshore Corp versus California Coastal Commission issue and Newsom’s claims about “Trump’s America.” However, despite being vocal on political matters, Mickelson has made it clear that he has no interest in holding political office.

Recently, a social media user suggested that Mickelson run as the Republican nominee in 2028, but he said that he did not feel qualified. He added that his views were too strong, focused on giving people wide rights to protect themselves and their property. However, he admitted that these ideas were too extreme for California or the country.
