He had an impressive time playing in the DP World Tour event this week, winning his first tournament on the circuit. With that, Puig jumped from 172nd in the OWGR to 112th place, earning 16.42122 points with his victory.

LIV golfers struggle with their rankings as they do not receive ranking points while playing in their league. However, David Puig has played in a few tournaments on the Asian Tour and DP World Tour this year, which helped him maintain his ranking in the top 200.

He was ranked 111th ahead of the Ras Al Khaimah Championship and settled in third place in the event, which helped him jump into the top 100 in the OWGR. He reached as high as 87th place.

However, since then, David Puig struggled to maintain his ranking and had fallen to 172nd place ahead of the BMW Australian PGA Championship. His best OWGR ranking is 77th.

Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler is leading the OWGR with a total of 736.06138 points. Rory McIlroy is in second place, followed by Tommy Fleetwood and Xander Schauffele.

Puig became the first Spanish golfer since 1981 to win the Australian PGA Championship. Following his victory, he opened up about his performance and reflected on the record. He said (via Sports Illustrated):

"My name, being with Seve’s name as the only two [from Spain] ... makes it even more special............He’s such a big figure for Spanish golf. His presence and everything he accomplished; it’s marked in Spanish players and in a way we try to be like him. Play with that freedom ... attitude, behavior and how much he cared and hopefully we’re kind of on the right path.”

Meanwhile, this season on LIV Golf, David Puig has recorded notable finishes such as solo fourth in Adelaide, Singapore, and T4 at Indianapolis.
