Fred Couples has suggested a few changes to the current Ryder Cup format following back-to-back disappointing results by Team USA. The veteran golfer recently discussed potential changes on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio.Fred Couples is a fifteen-time winner on the PGA Tour, including the Masters Tournament. He has also been part of five Ryder Cups and served as a vice-captain for the US team in 2023.In a recent interview, Couples suggested some radical changes for the Ryder Cup, including a reduction of the voices inside the team camp."I think in the team rooms, I would really like to just see the 12 guys and maybe even their caddies, but there’s no real reason for the caddie to be in there unless he’s telling them, hey, in my locker I got my rain gear, it looks like it’s going to rain," he said as per Bunkered. "I just think less is more to these players. When they go play in the majors, they don’t have people around them."And I think in the Ryder Cup, you just have too much around you, and I think it’s upsetting. And then when you get behind, then guess what happens? Everyone pats you on the back; 'we're going to get them today.' You’re not going to get them today unless you go out and get them," he added.Fred Couples further added that he was not a fan of this structure in the Ryder Cup, noting that the Presidents Cup was much easier to manage. The ace golfer also questioned the number of spectators at the event citing that an overly large crowd was difficult to control."I think it got out of control in New York," he continued. "I wish, let’s just say you and I were golf fans and we went to New York to watch. Fifty-thousand people watching four groups? It’s impossible.""And you say, well, how do we do? There wasn’t 50,000 people when I played, and they made money, and they did great. Now it’s a cash cow, but you don’t need 50,000 people watching four groups of golf. It’s impossible to see; it takes the sting away.""Charlie loved it" - Fred Couples spills the beans on Tiger Woods' emotional hole-in-one reactionDuring an interview with SiriusXM, the former World No. 1 also shared an anecdote about Tiger Woods' hole-in-one during a 2018 Thanksgiving practice session. While practicing together at the Madison Club in La Quinta, California, the 15-time major champion made an ace, which was his first in over 20 years. His son, Charlie Woods, was also impressed with the shot."He just kind of—from 212 yards—you haven’t even left the tee, and you’re telling your buddy he’s got a shot," Fred Couples revealed. "Then we get up there, and I kept quiet because when there was no ball up on that side of the green, Joe didn’t really say anything. It could have trickled over, but I just thought it was in."To say he got excited was an understatement. He went nuts, but Charlie loved it. And I want to say it was his first hole-in-one—I can’t put words in his mouth—but it was a long time since he made a hole-in-one, and that was some shot," he added. Both Fred Couples and Tiger Woods last played together at the 2024 Masters Tournament. While Couples played this year as well, the 49-year-old golfer has been out of action for nearly a year now.
