Scottie Scheffler and team won the inaugural Optum Golf Channel Games in a dramatic manner at Trump National Jupiter. The World No.1 player’s side beat his European rival Rory McIlroy and squad in a single swing from 47 yards in the playoff after tying through five challenges. Interestingly, Keegan Bradley was part of the winning side.
The US Ryder Cup skipper, who lost to Europe with his side in Bethpage, is having some of the best post-season outings this year. For the unversed, the ace golfer entered the contest alongside Scheffler, Sam Burns and Luke Clanton, after enjoying a dominating win in The Skins Game in November. He played his part by chipping in on just his second attempt in the short-game challenge to amass 10 points.
He later made up for a missed flop shot with some strong putting, hitting 9 points. Bradley ended up scoring the highest overall with 22 points and helped his team lead 2-0 early on. The 39-year-old, who won the Travelers Championship for the second time in three years, addressed his recent form and dubbed himself the “king of exhibition golf” during Wednesday night’s action.
It is pertinent to note that several golf pundits, including Smylie Kaufman, had earlier beaten around the bush about nicknaming Keegan Bradley in reference to his big performances in made-for-TV events. Now, the ace golfer, who donned the role of a playing captain at this year’s Ryder Cup, has unironically dubbed himself the ‘king’ of non-official golf outings.
Keegan Bradley dominates The Skins Game
Keegan Bradley made headlines by banking a massive silly season paycheck at The Skins Game. The eight-time PGA Tour winner won 11 skins, nine of them on two holes, at the exhibition team event at Panther National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. With this, he bagged a whopping $2.1 million from the competition returning after 17 years.
Bradley’s biggest single paycheck at the event came when he made a 7-foot putt on No. 13. He banked $900,000 with the move as money from the previous three holes had carried over. It is noteworthy that the Ryder Cup captain’s first win in the contest was worth five skins on the first hole. He was the only player to win in the opening four holes.
Keegan Bradley used the opportunity to take a playful jibe at European Ryder Cup winning heroes Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry, who played opposite him. Having taken a massive lead in earnings at the event, the American skipper dubbed it a ‘revenge’ on his rivals, addressing his Bethpage loss.
The champion golfer walked off with over $2 million while his teammate Xander Schauffele infamously ended the outing with $0 in the bank. It is pertinent to note that the entire prize purse of the last Skins Game, held in 2008, was $1 million.
