Justin Thomas opened up about the 2025 Ryder Cup golf course. The American golfer played for the U.S. team at the biennial tournament, which was held in September. However, playing on the home course, the U.S. team had a tough time on the greens, and they struggled to secure a win.
This week, Thomas appeared on an episode of the "No Laying Up" podcast, where he candidly reflected on the Ryder Cup. He said that the greens were not as they were on the instructions given by their team captain, Keegan Bradley.
"I don't know why they [the greens] weren't at all what Keegan had asked for. I mean, he had been pretty clear of asking for a certain speed and wanting it fast enough. I watched them argue with us that they were 13s [on the Stimpmeter],” Thomas said (via Golf Digest). "It’s like, 'guys, we play golf every week, like, look on TV at how many guys are leaving putts short. Nobody is getting ... You can't have a putt, roll, three feet, four feet past the hole. Like these greens are slow, speed them up.”
“It was just bizarre because that's not something you would expect at a home Ryder Cup. A fun advantage you generally have [as a home Ryder Cup team] is being able to do that a little bit, and it was just so frustrating that we were being fought with and argued with on the speed of the greens that we asked for. So that was bizarre," he added.
It was Justin Thomas’ fourth appearance at the Ryder Cup. He made his debut in 2018, but the U.S. team lost that year. The result was the same in 2023 and then again in 2025. He was on the winning team of the Ryder Cup in 2021.
Justin Thomas recorded 2 points at the 2025 Ryder Cup
Justin Thomas had a tough time at the 2025 Ryder Cup, which was held at the Bethpage Golf Club. He could only manage to add two points for his team.
The U.S. team had a terrible time on the first two days of the Ryder Cup. Justin Thomas played in a team with Bryson DeChambeau in Friday foursomes but lost to Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton 4&3. However, he next returned to play in the Friday four-ball game, and this time in a team with Cameron Young. They faced Ludvig Åberg and Rasmus Højgaard from the Europe team. The U.S. team won the game 6&5.
On the second day, he played in four-ball in a team with Young but lost to Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry by 2 up. Thomas added the second point after winning his Sunday singles against Tommy Fleetwood by 1 up.
