Jack Nicklaus penned a note applauding Scottie Scheffler for winning his namesake Jack Nicklaus Award. This was the 29-year-old’s fourth consecutive PGA Tour Player of the Year title, joining Tiger Woods as the only players to win the award four or more times consecutively. He beat the likes of Jack Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Ben Griffin, to clinch the award.

Nicklaus penned a note on his social media congratulating the champion golfer for his remarkable feat. The legendary golfer stated that the current World No.1 is “arguably in a class by himself.” However, he used the opportunity to nod to the other nominees. He lauded McIlroy, Griffin and Fleetwood for ‘giving Scottie a run as finalists.’

However, he backed the award by stating the champion golfer’s six PGA Tour wins, including the PGA Championship and the British Open, in a year was “very hard to overlook.”

Jack Nicklaus shared an image of him with Scottie Scheffler at the Memorial Tournament presentation on Instagram and wrote:

“Congrats to Scottie Scheffler for his four-peat and winning the Jack Nicklaus Award as PGA Tour Player of the Year. Even with Rory McIlroy and his wonderful year - along with very talented and greatly improved Ben Griffin and inspiring Tommy Fleetwood - giving Scottie a run as finalists, it’s very hard to overlook six victories in one year, including the Memorial golf Tournament and two majors.

Right now, Scottie is at the top of the game! Arguably in a class by himself. Although the PGA Tour today is filled with terrific players. Still, Scottie certainly shines at the top! Scottie doesn’t make golf his major priority, and I like that approach. I think you live a much happier and healthier life that way. After all, golf is a game, and Scottie Scheffler sure goes a great job at playing that game.”

Nickalus signed off the post congratulating Scheffler again. The 85-year-old noted that him and his wife Barbara are “very proud” the Player of the Year winner.

Tiger Woods laud Scottie Scheffler's game ahead of Player of the Year win

Scottie Scheffler won the Jack Nicklaus Award on Monday and joined Tiger Woods as the second-ever golfer to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year title four times in a row. This rare feat came just days after Woods lauded Scheffler for his form. The legendary golfer, hosting the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, dubbed the 19-time Tour winner’s game “truly amazing.”

Woods, who won four Player of the Year titles from1999-2003, made the comments on the reigning PGA Championship and The Open Championship champion after playing in practice together at Albany.

Tiger Woods said earlier this month at the Hero World Challenge:

“There’s nothing you can’t not like about Scottie (Scheffler). What he’s doing on the golf course is just incredible, the consistency day in and day out… how he attacks the golf course. It starts from you can see him analyze it from the green back where the flag is, where he wants to miss a tee shot, what club to hit, where the wind is, what side of the tee box he’s to start off on. It’s truly amazing at how thoughtful he is and strategic he is throughout the entire round.”

For the unversed, the PGA Tour announced the Player of the Year award, decided by Tour members’ voting, on Monday. The circuit CEO Brian Rolapp applauded Scheffler for the win in a press release.
