"He's jealous of Rory McIlroy" - Fans react to golf legend's bold claim about the Northern Irishman

Rory McIlroy has won six golf majors in his career, and the most recent came at the 2025 Masters. His victory at Augusta National this season was a pretty emotional moment, as it marked the completion of his career grand slam, a feat he had been trying to complete for more than a decade. Even after this win, he has been consistent on the course and has even won tournaments.

Despite McIlroy's impressive numbers, 62-year-old golf legend Nick Faldo believed that he would win any major. Faldo discussed Rory McIlroy in a recent interview with The Telegraph, claiming that it took ten years for the Northern Irishman to win a major and that another major win for him may not come anytime soon. NUCLR Golf reported about this on their X page, with a message that read:

"🚨🏆🚫 #READ — A 6-time major champion weighs in on the chances Rory McIlroy wins another major during his career: “…I think it will be tough for Rory to win another one.” 👀"

Interestingly, fans began to support McIlroy in the comments section, claiming that Nick Faldo was possibly jealous of him. Some fans said that McIlroy has been playing fantastic golf for a long time and that he has at least one or maybe even two more golf major wins left in his career. Talking more about these fans' comments, here is a look at some of them:

"That's just absolutely insane to make that kind of statement after all of Rory's success and how well he's playing right now," one fan stated.

"Rory’s got 1 maybe 2 left in him for sure," another fan claimed.

"He plays better with the pressure off. Risk is he stops practicing as hard…which is not an unlikely scenario," one fan explained.

"Don’t care for the fella but he will win more. Prolly even a couple of opens," another fan stated.

Apart from the aforementioned statement, Faldo also compared Rory McIlroy to Scottie Scheffler during his interview.

In the same interview, Nick Faldo noted that while Rory McIlroy had nothing to achieve in his career and would never reach the pinnacle of his career again, Scottie Scheffler was playing the game more comfortably. Faldo noted that Scheffler was solely focused on his game and sought ways to win tournaments.

Faldo stated:

"There was so much emotion at Augusta, and you cannot reproduce the emotion to win a Major like that again, so I think it will be tough for Rory to win another one. Whereas Scottie seems to be very clear-headed right now. He’s in that wonderful moment where he trusts his game 100 per cent. It’s like Tiger (Woods) was."

Apart from this, The Telegraph also reported that Rory McIlroy revealed how he gets emotional even if he watches the replay of the 2025 Masters.
