Brendan Steele is currently teeing up at the PIF Saudi International 2025 with his LIV Golf future in doubt. Despite winning LIV Golf Adelaide at The Grange Golf Club just 18 months ago, the 42-year-old is now is the breakaway tour’s Open Zone after finishing 45th on the season-long individual standings. He admitted ‘feeling bad about’ the position despite his recent form.

For the unversed, Steele’s Australian win was one of only two top-five finishes last year. Notably, he managed zero top-ten finishes on LIV Golf this season, with his best finish coming at the LIV Golf Team Championship in Michigan where he carded a 65 at the Stroke Play event to settle for a T5 with his HyFlyers squad. Ahead of The International Series’ season finale, the three-time PGA Tour winner has revealed his wish to stay on the Phil Mickelson-led team.

Speaking about his LIV future during The International Series event at Riyadh Golf Club, Brendan Steele said, as quoted by Flushing It Golf:

“I don't know yet. I love the team. I love LIV, and I mean, Phil (Mickelson) has been my mentor my whole career. And Cameron (Tringale) is one of my closest friends as well. So, I love being out with those guys. And I think I have a lot more to give, I think, especially with the putter, making that change was really big for me. So, I'd love to have another shot at it, for sure…

Yeah, I would feel bad about it because I feel like I can still do it and I can still perform at a high level. That win wasn't long ago. I mean, it was 18 months ago. And my 1st 2 years on LIV, I played very solidly. So, I'm proud of that. And I think I can definitely help a team out here. You know, so that's what I want to do.”

Brendan Steele reiterates Phil Mickelson's role in LIV Golf team building

Brendan Steele reiterated that the final decision is up to the team. He stated that Phil Mickelson will have a good say in the team’s quest to for a ‘strong’ team and added that the skipper “definitely wants” him back in the team. The former PGA Tour star also addressed Andy Ogletree’s exit from the squad.

For the unversed, the 27-year-old was relegated at the end of the 2025 LIV Golf season after finishing 50th on the season-long standings. Steele addressed the same and added that the team needs to “bring in a nice player” in the open position.

Brendan Steele added:

“I mean, it's up to the team and the league to kind of figure out what's best for everything moving forward. So Phil will obviously have a good say in that. But, you know, they have to make the team as strong as possible. So, we obviously have one open spot, so I'm hoping that we bring in a nice player there and then I get to round out the team and we can play with Phil and Cameron and do really well.”

It is pertinent to note that Steele’s Adelaide victory from 2024 would’ve given him a winner’s category exemption on almost every other circuit in the world. However, LIV Golf doesn’t have such rules. LIV enforced the expanded Drop Zone and compulsory relegation, while adding more promotions spots from the Asian Tour and other pathways.
