From December 4 to 7, the Crown Australian Open was held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club. The AUD 2,000,000 tournament ended with Neergaard-Petersen winning it with a one-stroke margin over Cam Smith. Besides the Stonehaven Cup, the 26-year-old also earned 500 Race To Dubai points with this victory.

It turns out that Neergaard-Petersen did not just win his first DP World Tour title at Royal Melbourne GC, but he might be the ninth Danish male golfer to reach top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). Neergaard-Petersen's achievement was shared on X (previously Twitter) by a user:

While the three-time Challenge Tour winner propelled through the world rankings with the win in Melbourne last week, his previous all-time career high point was in April 2025 when he ranked 72nd in the OWGR.

DP World Tour pro Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen was ambitious to break into the top 50 of the world rankings

Back in May, Neergaard-Petersen made his PGA Championship debut at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. A week before the major, the golfer spoke with the DP World Tour and talked about his ambitions to be among the golfing greats someday.

The professional from Nivå, Denmark, made it clear that his goals were to win on the current DP World Tour season and play in major championships. Neergaard-Petersen further stated his wish to enter the top 50 in the world rankings and told the Tour:

“I still have the goal that I want to win this season on the DP World Tour, so that hasn't changed. I still want to play in Majors."

"I wanted to see if I could crack the top 50 in the world ranking and that hasn't changed. I’m just trying to be myself and do my thing and then I have faith that's good enough and that's the good way for me to do things."

Neergaard-Petersen got a chance to play at the PGA Championship, where he missed the cut. However, he displayed raw talent and persistence at the US Open, which was held several weeks later. Amid a tough setting like Oakmont, he carded 6-over in four rounds and shared the 12th spot with the likes of multiple-time major winners Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele.
