Stewart Cink publicly declared his interest to lead the US Ryder Cup Team for the 2027 event at Adare Manor. The 2009 Open champion, who represented USA in the cup five times as player and once as vice-captain, had earlier revealed interviewing for the job for Bethpage that was eventually handed to Keegan Bradley. Interestingly, he has now come out to laud the latter’s work as skipper despite the side suffering a big loss.Cink, who was an assistant at Marco Simone in Italy two years ago, opined that Keegan Bradley “did a great job” in Bethpage Black. The 52-year-old’s comment came after the residing skipper dubbed the Ryder Cup loss in New York as the “darkest time” of his life. The veteran golfer, whose only winning experience came at the 2008 edition of the team event, said Bradley has been too hard on himself.Interestingly, Cink took away the blame of loss from Bradley and cited ‘fear factor’ as a reason. He claimed that the European side led by Luke Donald played like they ‘weren’t afraid to lose.’Analyzing Keegan Bradley’s role at the Ryder Cup ahead of the Champions Cup, Stewart Cink said, as quoted by Sports Illustrated:“I think Keegan did a great job and the scoreboard is just not a good way to determine how he did. The players have to decide it on the scoreboard… Hard to explain it, really. I saw where our guys had two of the top 11 putters in the Ryder Cup through two days. You cannot win doing that. And we did not have a bad putting team. But putting comes down to something in your heart and belief and there’s a fear factor, I think. The European guys... they don’t play like they’re afraid to lose. And I think we kind of play like we’re afraid to lose and I can say that because I’ve been there and I know what it feels like… And it seems almost embarrassing to say that but there’s something about the way they are bred to play in the Ryder Cup from a young age and it means the most. Winning against the United States means a lot to them.”Keegan Bradley still dealing with Ryder Cup loss The comments from Cink come as Keegan Bradley’s captaincy continue to be scrutinized, months after Team US’ Ryder Cup loss in New York. For the unversed, the American side suffered a 15-13 loss despite making a strong final day run after trailing by seven points going into Sunday at Bethpage. The home side saw Donald’s team lift the prestigious trophy for the second consecutive time.Bradley recently revealed that he is still dealing with the fallout loss. The 39-year-old dubbed it the ‘darkest time of his life’ while reiterating that the loss in New York has been “tough” on him and his players alike.Keegan Bradley said on Wednesday, ahead of the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, as quoted by Tee Scripts:“I mean, the darkest time of my life probably (Ryder Cup loss). I don't know how else to describe it. Certainly, definitely of my career… It's Ryder Cup hangover and you're just exhausted and you're down, you know. That takes a toll on you. But there's just, it just was, it just was a tough time. Really, it's been tough for all of us; not just me, the players as well.”However, Bradley expressed no remorse in taking up the US team captaincy. It is pertinent to note that the 39-year-old was put under harsh scrutiny for taking up the skipper role which Tiger Woods had earlier passed on. Despite this, the residing leader said he ‘would love’ to rebuild the US side and try again in 2027 if he gets a chance.
