Jay Monahan mourns 'true original' Fuzzy Zoeller's death by penning a heartfelt message

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan shared condolences for Fuzzy Zoeller’s family members. The veteran professional golfer and two-time major champion recently passed away at the age of 74.

Zoeller left behind his four children, Sunny, Heidi, Gretchen, and Miles, and his grandchildren. Sources further reported that the Director of Insperity Invitational received the news of the golfer's tragic passing from Zoeller's daughter.

On November 27th, Monahan issued a statement via press release, stating how Fuzzy Zoeller’s death saddened the PGA Tour. The PGA Tour Commissioner also praised the late eight-time PGA Tour winner for being a "true original" and further said:

"The PGA TOUR is saddened by the passing of Fuzzy Zoeller. Fuzzy was a true original whose talent and charisma left an indelible mark on the game of golf. Fuzzy combined competitive excellence with a sense of humor that endeared him to fans and fellow players alike. We celebrate his remarkable legacy and extend our deepest condolences to his family."

Fuzzy Zoeller stepped into the professional circuit in 1973 after completing his collegiate golfing days at the University of Houston. The Division I juggernaut gained spotlight in 1979 by clinching the Masters in his debut. He won the green jacket after winning against Tom Watson and Ed Sneed in a playoff. Zoeller’s second major title came in 1984 when he won the U.S. Open at Winged Foot by defeating Greg Norman in a playoff.

John Daly mourns the loss of Fuzzy Zoeller via a heartfelt note on social media

John Daly recently paid an emotional tribute to his late friend Zoeller by sharing a picture with the late American professional and penning a heartfelt letter. The two-time major champion stated that Fuzzy Zoeller will be missed and wrote in the caption of his Instagram post:

"To a best friend and a father figure who helped me a ton in my life… I’ll miss you beyond words🕊️ Rest in Peace Fuzzy ❤️"

Zoeller and Daly were friends for a long time, sharing mutual respect. In an old interview with Golf Digest, the 2002 Senior PGA Champion admired Daly's stamina and defended the latter against people who criticised his drinking habits. Daly also labelled Zoeller as the best wedge player "125 yards out" while having a discussion with Phil Mickelson on Grant Horvat's YouTube channel.
