Tiger Woods will go down as one of the greats in the game of golf. The World Golf Hall of Fame member showed high praise for a fellow high-performance athlete back in 2007.

Michael Phelps had won seven gold medals at the 2007 World Aquatics Championships, where he tied the record for the global long-course championship. At the time, Woods had not met the now 28 Olympic Games medalist but had a lot to say about his contribution to the sport of swimming.

As an avid lover of all sports, the 15-time Major championship winner stated that he loved watching Michael Phelps set new records. In an interview nearly 18 years ago, Tiger Woods said (via HITC):

"I think we all follow… anyone who is a sports fanatic, you are always going to be intrigued by other sportsmen and what they are able to accomplish. What he’s done, truly remarkable. Not only is he winning, but he’s also setting records, world records. So it’s phenomenal to watch, and as a sports fan, I’m just as enthusiastic as everybody else to watch other people do it in other sports.”

Since then, the two have met and have followed each other as they went on to set new records in their respective sports. Michael Phelps has been out on the golf course with Tiger Woods to watch him play at numerous golf tournaments, including the 2018 PGA Championship and the 2019 Masters Tournament, where the latter won his fifth Green Jacket.

Tiger Woods sat down a month after winning the 2019 Masters Tournament with his then caddie, Joe LaCava, to watch the broadcast of the tournament, which was when he noticed the moment with Michael Phelps.

The 82-time PGA Tour winner said (via Golf.com):

"I was locked into what I was doing. I had just taken the lead on 15 and was just trying to figure out, am I going to — I already had an idea if it was going to be 7 or 8 [iron], and that’s what I kept thinking and reminding myself that, hey, I’ve got to be committed to either shot. But no, I did not know who was there, and to see the reaction, to see Verne [Lundquist] call it and to see Michael, basically, bending over in the same position that I was in leaning forward, that was pretty cool.”

He went on to note that it was cool to see the 2019 Masters Tournament from a different perspective than he and his caddie did, along with the commentators takes on his golf game.
