Venezuela and Australia return to action on Friday when they square off in an international friendly at the Shell Energy Stadium. This will be the first meeting between the two nations since February 2004, when they played out a 1-1 draw in a similar friendly fixture.
A deflated Venezuela side were on the receiving end of yet another defeat last time out when they were beaten 1-0 by Argentina in a friendly clash at the Hard Rock Stadium on October 11.
This followed a heartbreaking end to their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, as they lost each of their final three games in the group to miss out on the playoff spot.
Venezuela finished eighth in the group standings with 18 points from their 18 qualifying matches, just two points behind seventh-placed Bolivia in the qualifying playoff spot.
On the other hand, Australia suffered their first defeat in well over a year last time out when they were beaten 2-1 by the United States in a friendly fixture at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Before that, Tony Popovic’s men were on a run of seven straight victories and went unbeaten in 12 consecutive matches, picking up eight wins and four draws, since a 1-0 loss against Bahrain in September 2024.
Australia have already secured their spot in the World Cup next year after finishing second in Group C of the qualifiers with 19 points from 10 games, four points off group winners Japan.

Venezuela vs Australia Prediction
Having both suffered defeats last time out, Venezuela and Australia will be looking to return to winning ways here as they aim to close out the year on a strong note. Both sides are evenly matched on paper, but we fancy Australia to come out on top at the Shell Energy Stadium.
Prediction: Venezuela 1-2 Australia
