Sporting CP get their 2025-26 Taca da Liga campaign underway when they take on Alverca at the Estadio Jose Alvalade on Tuesday. Both sides first met in this same competition back in October 2019, when Alverca picked up a surprise 2-0 victory on home turf.
Sporting CP maintained their fine run of results in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last Sunday when they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Tondela at the Estadio Joao Cardoso.
Prior to that, Rui Borges’ men picked up their second win of the UEFA Champions League campaign on October 22, when they fought back from behind to edge out Olympique Marseille 2-1 on home turf.
Sporting CP, who currently sit second in the Primeira Liga table, now turn their focus to the Taca da Liga, where they are aiming to secure their first title since the 2021-22 campaign, when they beat rivals Benfica 2-1 in the final.
Meanwhile, Alverca were left empty-handed yet again last weekend when they fell to a 4-0 hammering against Gil Vicente in their Primeira Liga clash at the Complexo Desportivo FC Alverca.
This followed a disappointing penalty-shootout defeat against second-tier União de Leiria on October 18, a result which saw Custodio Castro's side crash out of the Taca de Portugal.
Making their first-ever appearance in the Portuguese top flight, Alverca can take pride in their performance so far, as they sit 12th in the table, with 10 points from nine games, just three points behind seventh-placed Braga.

Sporting CP vs Alverca Prediction
While Alverca will be looking to bounce back and cause a major cup upset, they have their work cut out against a significantly superior and more experienced Sporting CP side. Given the gulf in quality and depth between the two teams, we are backing Borges’ men to secure a comfortable win.
Prediction: Sporting CP 3-0 Alverca
