Liverpool must pay £30 million if they want to sign 30-year-old striker considered short-term replacement for Alexander Isak: Reports

Liverpool have reportedly been told to part with at least £30 million if they want to snap up Atletico Madrid forward Alexander Sorloth as a replacement for the injured Alexander Isak.

The Swedish hitman could potentially be out for the season after suffering an ankle injury while scoring following a late tackle by Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky Van de Ven in a 2-1 Premier League away win last week.

Alexander Isak, who had arrived on a reported British transfer record £125 million move from Newcastle United in the summer, has scored just twice in 10 Premier League games for the holders. The 25-year-old had an operation this week for a fractured fibula and is set to miss at least two months of action, as per boss Arne Slot (as per the BBC):

"It's going to be a long injury, for a couple of months. It's a big disappointment for him and, as a result, for us."

The Reds are scurrying for replacements in the short term, setting their sights on Sorloth, who has netted four times in 17 La Liga outings for Atletico this term. However, with the 30-year-old Dane contracted till 2028, the Rojiblancos don't want to lose him for cheap.

As per Radio Marca (via Caught Offside), Diego Simeone's side's asking price for Sorloth could force the Reds to look elsewhere, with a loan deal not appearing to be an option for the player who netted 24 times last season.

Tottenham defender Micky Van de Ven has said that there was no malicious intent in his tackle that injured Liverpool hitman Alexander Isak in the Reds' Premier League win last weekend.

During the process of scoring the 56th-minute opener, Isak was floored by a late tackle from the Dutchman and is now set to miss a few weeks of action for the Reds. Van de Ven said about his Isak tackle to Sky Sports (via the BBC):

"I didn't want to do something to hurt him of course. I just wanted to try to block the shot. I think it was a bit unlucky how his foot landed between my legs. So I sent him a text afterwards and I wanted to wish him all the best for his recovery.

"I hope to see him on the pitch very soon again. He really appreciated the message and texted back."

Liverpool are next in action at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league on Saturday (December 27). They are fifth in the standings, 10 points behind leaders Arsenal (39) after 17 games.
