As per Diario AS (via Madrid Xtra), Real Madrid players are supporting Xabi Alonso amidst rumors about his future. The Spaniard's future at the club is under speculation following a poor run of results.
Real Madrid appointed Xabi Alonso as manager in the summer following Carlo Ancelotti's departure. They were eliminated in the FIFA Club World Cup in the semi-finals, losing 4-0 against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). They haven't had a good 2025-26 campaign so far either.
Los Blancos lost 2-1 against Manchester City at the Bernabeu in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, December 10. It marked their second defeat in a row, having lost 2-0 against Celta Vigo at home in LaLiga on the weekend. They have won just two of their last eight games across competitions.
This has led to reports that Xabi Alonso might be sacked. The Spaniard also appeared to have tense relationships with the players, especially Vinicius Jr. However, as per Diario AS's report, the players are now backing Alonso, having previously not been too keen on his methods.
Real Madrid are seventh in the Champions League league-stage standings with two games remaining. Meanwhile, they are second in LaLiga, four points behind arch-rivals Barcelona.
Jude Bellingham backs Xabi Alonso after Real Madrid's defeat against Manchester City
Los Blancos opened the scoring against Manchester City, as Rodrygo Goes broke a 32-game goal drought in the 28th minute. However, Nico O'Reilly restored parity in the 35th minute, before Erling Haaland scored the winner via a penalty eight minutes later.
Real Madrid made 17 attempts, as compared to Manchester City's 11, but couldn't find the equalizer. After the game, Jude Bellingham shared his thoughts, telling TNT Sports:
"I personally have a great relationship with him [Xabi Alonso] and I know a lot of the boys do too. After that run of draws, we had some great conversations internally and felt we'd put that form behind us before the last couple of games. No one is downing tools, no one complaining or moaning. We take it on the chin and keep fighting.
"We're still trying to work it out within the changing room regardless of what goes on outside. We know that's not helpful... But in the changing room we have what we need to turn it around, we need maybe a bit of luck or maybe something we need to discuss internally. I have faith this season isn't over just because we're in a bad run of form," he added.
Real Madrid will next face Deportivo Alaves away in LaLiga on Sunday, December 14.
