Real Madrid have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign Liverpool target Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace star's wage demands are said to be impossible for the Spanish side to match, and they have thus backed out.

According to a report in AS (via Tribal Football), Guehi will not move to Real Madrid next summer, as the club were unwilling to meet his wage demands. They were looking to lure the Englishman to the Santiago Bernabéu, as Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba were in the final year of their contracts.

Crystal Palace have confirmed that Guehi will not sign a new deal at the club and will leave at the end of the season. The Eagles manager, Oliver Glasner, said in his press conference that the Englishman has already informed the club and said (via TNT Sports):

“I think Marc has already told us that he doesn’t sign a new contract, so he will leave next year. The club wanted [him to stay]. We offered Marc a new contract but he said, ‘No, I want to make something different’, and that’s normal. For us, it’s how we can deal with this situation. [What] is the best way to get this next step done? That’s all about how we are talking together.”

Guehi was close to joining Liverpool in the summer, but Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the deal on deadline day after failing to get a replacement. The failed move saw more clubs enter the fray, including Real Madrid, with Bayern Munich and Manchester United also said to be interested.

Manchester United urged to sign Real Madrid and Liverpool target

Former Premier League star Louis Saha has urged Manchester United to sign Real Madrid and Liverpool target Marc Guehi. He believes that the Red Devils should hijack the move and sign him in the January window by paying a fee and told BetVictor (via MEN):

"Marc Guehi is definitely a top player and a leader. I love him as a player. It's simple: if Man Utd can hijack the deal to Liverpool, even by paying £20 million more than his market price, do it.
"I think he's a terrific player. I really like his consistency and the security he provides. I also appreciate his communication; he's a very reliable player. He will undoubtedly be part of a huge team and play for significant stakes in the future."

Liverpool had a £35 million deal agreed with Crystal Palace for the Real Madrid target in the summer.
