Manchester United are reportedly open to selling four first-team stars in January to raise funds for other targets. They are keen to sign a midfielder, but need to balance their books due to the PSR rules.

The Red Devils signed the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Senne Lammens in the summer. They have shown some improvement and sit seventh in the Premier League standings. They could now look to strengthen their side further in the January transfer window.

As per ESPN, Manchester United are open to selling Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, and Tyrell Malacia. All four players have found regular playing time hard to come by under Ruben Amorim. Hence, United could look to sell them to sign a midfielder.

However, selling four players could be a big ask for the club due to AFCON. Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazaroui are expected to feature in the tournament for their respective countries. Hence, selling the aforementioned four players could leave Amorim short of options.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are interested in signing a midfielder and have identified the likes of Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, Angelo Stiller, and Adam Wharton as potential targets. However, only Stiller is likely to be available in the January transfer window.

Joshua Zirkzee opens up after scoring Manchester United's win over Crystal Palace

Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Sunday, November 30. Jean-Phillippe Mateta gave the hosts the lead in the 36th minute via a penalty. However, Joshua Zirkzee (54') and Mason Mount (63') turned it around for the visitors.

It marked Zirkzee's first Premier League goal since December 2024. When asked about his goalless spell, the Dutchman said (h/t manutd.com):

“It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world and you have to perform. If you don’t score for a long time, it can get to you, but I’m surrounded by great players, great people, and we help each other every day. They made it quite easy for me.
“Today was just a reward I think for patience, hard work, trying to be consistent, and I’m just thankful to them, the manager as well, staff, everyone. [It’s] a good environment,” he added.

Manchester United signed Zirkzee from Bologna for a reported fee of €42.5 million in 2024. However, he's failed to make a big impact at the club, recording 14 goals and nine assists in 58 games across competitions.
