Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae. However, they will face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and numerous Serie A clubs for his signature.
Liverpool spent over £400 million in the summer to revamp their squad. At centre-back, they signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma, but the 18-year-old suffered an ACL injury. They were also close to signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. However, as the Eagles failed to secure a replacement, the move broke down on Deadline Day.
The Merseysiders are still keen on strengthening their defense. As per Fichajes.net, they have identified Kim Min-jae as a potential target. The South Korean centre-back has also garnered interest from Chelsea. The Blues are without Levi Colwill, who suffered an ACL injury, and are looking to sign a defender.
Meanwhile, Min-jae earned prominence with his performance for Napoli in the 2022-23 season, where they won the Serie A title. After just one year with the club, he joined Bayern Munich, where he has made 88 appearances. His contract with the Bavarians expires in 2028.
However, with doubts around Dayot Upamecano's future, it's unclear if Bayern will be willing to sell Min-jae. Meanwhile, along with Liverpool and Chelsea, AC Milan, Juventus, and Inter Milan are also interested in the 28-year-old.
Chelsea legend explains why they can't win PL title ahead of Liverpool or Arsenal
The Merseysiders won the Premier League title last season, but are seventh in the standings after nine games. They sit seven points behind the leaders, Arsenal. Chelsea, meanwhile, who finished fourth last season, are ninth, one point behind Liverpool.
The Blues lost 2-1 against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge in their last league clash on Saturday, October 25. After the game, John Terry said that due to the lack of experienced players in their squad, Chelsea cannot be title contenders. He explained:
“Losing to Sunderland after doing the hard work against Liverpool and Forest, I think we’re going to get that with a little bit of an inexperienced squad, with the younger group we have we’re gunna see that a bit and that’s what’s going to cost us not being title contenders at the end of it.”
The Blues last won the Premier League title in 2017. They will next take on Wolverhampton Wanderers away in the EFL Cup Fourth Round on Wednesday, October 29. They will then return to Premier League action on November 1 at London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
