Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have reportedly emerged as a likely destination for Vinicius Jr if he decides to part ways with Real Madrid. Vini’s future in the Spanish capital has been shrouded in uncertainty over the past few weeks, with reports claiming that manager Xabi Alonso is not a fan of the winger.
According to Sport, Vinicius has decided to leave Real Madrid next summer if Xabi Alonso remains in charge, and PSG has emerged as his most likely destination. The report added that the relationship between the pair is broken and beyond repair. It is believed that Vini feels despised and unfairly treated compared to his teammate Kylian Mbappe.
Things appeared to reach a breaking point between the pair during Sunday’s El Clasico, when Vinicius angrily reacted to being substituted in the 72nd minute.
“I’m leaving the team; it’s better if I leave; I’m leaving,” the Brazilian was reportedly caught shouting as he stormed off the pitch.
While it has since been reported that Real Madrid will not punish or suspend Vinicius over his outburst, his relationship with Alonso has deteriorated. The 25-year-old’s current contract with Los Blancos will expire in 2027, and he is yet to agree to a contract extension, with reports suggesting that the club have refused to meet his salary demands.
However, PSG, who are renowned for going after European superstars, are reportedly monitoring the situation. Any potential move for Vini would obviously require his suitors to cough up a significant amount of money, as his current market value stands at €150 million, according to Transfermarkt.
What Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso said on Vinicius’ reaction to being substituted during El Clasico
Xabi Alonso downplayed Vinicius’ stroppy reaction after he was substituted during their 2-1 win against Barcelona. The Spanish tactician took only the ‘positives’ from the winger’s performance, noting that he contributed a lot.
Alonso told reporters:
“I'm taking away a lot of positives from Vini Jr.'s performance and I don't want to lose sight of what's important. He contributed a lot. It's an important, deserved victory, that could have been wider given the chances we had and the penalty. Regaining the feeling of being a competitive team in big games is important. All coaches know that there are different personalities. Now we'll enjoy it and, when the time comes, we'll talk about these things in the dressing room, of course.”
So far this season, Vinicius has scored five goals and provided four assists for Real Madrid in 13 appearances across all competitions.
