Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku is reportedly seeking an exit from the club in the January transfer window. According to TBR Football, the Frenchman could leave in search of regular game time, with Paris Saint-Germain looking to sign him.
The 27-year-old has largely been relegated to a secondary role behind Nicolas Jackson this season, with the Senegalese star impressing under Enzo Maresca. Nkunku has become a regular with the side's B team, getting his minutes in the cup games and in the UEFA Europa Conference League. He has made 24 appearances across all competitions, collecting 12 goals and four assists.
Keeping this in mind, earlier reports suggested that while Nkunku was unhappy with his situation at Chelsea, he was not looking to leave. However, with his situation unlikely to improve owing to Jackson's strong form, a departure could occur.
PSG are currently seeking a talisman to lead their attack following the exit of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer to Real Madrid in the summer. Nkunku could be an adequate replacement, with the likes of Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani proving to be largely ineffective.
Chelsea's potential first hurdle in UEFA Conference League knockout stages revealed
Four teams have arisen as Chelsea's probable opponents in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Following the conclusion of the tournament's group stage, the draw was conducted on December 20.
The Blues were among eight sides that secured direct qualification to the Round of 16 as they finished top of the table with six wins from their six. The other seven teams include Vitoria SC (Portugal), Fiorentina (Italy), Rapid Wien (Austria), Djurgarden (Sweden), Lugano (Switzerland), Legia Warsaw (Poland) and Cercle Brugge (Belgium).
The remaining sides placed 9th-24th will now face each other in a two-legged playoff tie. Out of these 16 teams, Gent (Belgium), Real Betis (Spain), FC Copenhagen (Denmark), and FC Heidenheim (Germany) are the Blues' potential opponents.
Gent and Heidenheim will be familiar opponents to Chelsea, having already faced them both in the group stages. A 4-2 win over the Belgians and a 2-0 win over the Germans will certainly give them confidence should they arise as the teams to face them.
Maresca's side will be hoping to continue their brilliant form throughout the campaign as they completed a perfect run through their group stage. They finished as the top scorers in the tournament comfortably, collecting 26 goals in their six games. Chelsea will look to become the first team to complete a hat-trick of European trophies, having already won the Champions League and Europa League twice each.
