Former Manchester City star Joleon Lescott snubbed Arsenal while naming his favorites for the UEFA Champions League this season. He backed Bayern Munich to win the trophy amidst their incredible start to the season.
Three teams have had a perfect start to the 2025-26 Champions League campaign, with four wins in four games. They are Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Inter Milan. Manchester City are two points behind them, with three wins and one draw.
Joleon Lescott, meanwhile, has backed the Bavarians to win the Champions League this season, saying (h/t Metro):
"When they’re on form they’re as good as anyone, it’s just about finding consistency throughout the season, which they lacked last season, listen, they’ve been the favourites for a number of years and rightly so."
"But you can’t look past Bayern Munich and what Vinny [Vincent Kompany] is doing there. You’ve got to look at them being the favourites."
Bayern Munich reached the quarter-finals last season, where they were eliminated by Inter Milan, who reached the final. Arsenal, meanwhile, were eliminated in the semi-finals by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who won the trophy.
This season, Bayern have a 100% record in 16 games across all competitions. They have beaten PSG, Chelsea, FC Pafos, and Club Brugge in the Champions League. The Gunners, meanwhile, have beaten Athletic Club, Atletico Madrid, Slavia Praha, and Olympiacos.
Luis Enrique rates Bayern Munich as the best team in Europe over Arsenal & PSG
Bayern Munich beat PSG 2-1 at Parc de Princes in the Champions League on Tuesday, November 3. Luis Diaz opened the scoring in the fourth minute before adding another in the 32nd minute. The Colombian attacker was then sent off in the first-half stoppage time for a late tackle on Achraf Hakimi.
PSG scored in the 74th minute via Joao Neves, but they couldn't find an equalizer. After the game, the Parisians' head coach, Luis Enrique, hailed Bayern as the best team in Europe over his side and Arsenal. He said (h/t Metro):
"At 11 against 11, Bayern were stronger [than us], without a doubt. You play against the best team in Europe, with the best results, and they pressed us at a high level."
Notably, Arsenal and Bayern Munich will face off in their next Champions League game at the Emirates on November 26. The two sides had clashed in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in the 2023-24 season, with the German giants winning 3-2 on aggregate.
