Liverpool fans have reacted with exasperation to the inclusion of the duo of Cody Gakpo and Ibrahima Konate in the starting XI against PSV Eindhoven. The Premier League champions are looking to return to winning ways when they host the Dutch outfit in the UEFA Champions League.

Arne Slot's side have failed to avoid defeat since claiming a 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League on November 4th. The Reds have lost to Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, both in the league, since their triumph over Real Madrid.

Slot watched as his side suffered a shock 3-0 defeat at home to Forest last weekend, but has kept most of the players who started that game. He made just one outfield change to the XI, with the likes of Konate and Gakpo, who will be facing his former team, keeping their places in the lineup.

A section of Liverpool fans appear to have lost their patience with under-fire coach Slot, criticizing him for his selection via posts on X.

A fan poimted out that Joe Gomez and Federico Chiesa ought to be starting ahead of Konate and Gakpo.

Liverpool are set to face PSV in the league phase of the competition for a second successive season. Both sides faced off in January, with the Dutch outfit claiming a famous 3-2 win over Slot's side, who had previously booked their place in the Round of 16.

Ekitike in, Isak out for Liverpool

Liverpool coach Arne Slot has chosen to keep his faith in the majority of the players who lost 3-0 to Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday. The lone outfield change made to the XI was to include Hugo Ekitike from the start, while Alexander Isak has been dropped to the bench.

Ekitike, a summer signing from Eintracht Frankfurt, has enjoyed a better start to life at Anfield than fellow summer signing Isak. The 23-year-old France international has found the net six times in 17 appearances across all competitions since joining the Reds in the summer.

Isak, on the other hand, has struggled massively since his Premier League record move from Newcastle United. The Swede has scored just once for the club in a Carabao Cup win over Championship outfit Southampton despite making nine appearances across all competitions this season.
