Chelsea fans on social media are full of praise for defender Wesley Fofana after the 2-0 win over Everton in the Premier League. Many believe that the Frenchman is back to his best and will be key to their season.
Enzo Maresca's side took an early lead through Cole Palmer, who was making his first start at Stamford Bridge since September. Malo Gusto, who assisted the first goal, poked in a second late in the half to help them take a 2-0 lead into the break.
The home side were under a lot of pressure from the Toffees, but they managed to hold on to their lead and seal a 2-0 win over David Moyes' side to climb back into the top 4.
Chelsea fans could not stop themselves from praising Fofana for his performance and posted:
Maresca was quizzed about whether he had found the back four to play at Chelsea, and the manager said that he had players who were unable to play every three days and needed to be managed. He said (via Football London):
"This back four was today, was Bournemouth, was Barcelona, was Arsenal. They are always there but now if we play Tuesday and Wednesday, for them it's complicated to play again. Wes [Fofana] cannot play every three days in this moment. So that's why also we try to change the central defender. The other day it was Benoit [Badiashile] next to Trev [Chalobah]. So we try to find a solution for the ones that they cannot play every three days."
Chelsea face Cardiff City next in the Carabao Cup, before traveling to take on Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Enzo Maresca on Cole Palmer making his return for Chelsea
Enzo Maresca was delighted to have Cole Palmer back in the starting XI, admitting that they were a better side with the Englishman in the team. He added that they were missing key players this season and is hoping that they can get back to their best soon and said (via Football London):
"I said many times that with Cole, we are a better team. I really praise the players and the squad because we played 16 Premier League games, five of them without Moises Caicedo, 11 of them without Cole Palmer, almost all of them without Liam Delap. And this squad, no matter who is playing, they are doing fantastic."
"Today was five games in 12 days so for sure when you see Cole Palmer there, we said many times that he's our best player but we play almost all season without our best player. We play five games in the Premier League without Moises Caicedo. This is the reason why I'm so happy for the players, and it's something that I would like that from outside people can appreciate that because the effort from the players is fantastic."
Chelsea are now five points behind leaders Arsenal, who face Wolverhampton later on Saturday, December 13.
