Liverpool fans have slammed Ibrahima Konate after their 3-3 draw with Leeds United in the Premier League. Many believe the Frenchman should be sold in the January window and that the club should not extend his contract.
Arne Slot's side had a 2-0 lead in the game after Hugo Ekitike scored twice in the second half, when Konate's late tackle on Wilfried Gnonto gave Leeds United a penalty. Dominic Calvert-Lewin stepped up and converted, starting the comeback for Daniel Farke's side.
Leeds United needed just two minutes to find the equalizer, with Anton Stach wriggling into the box and scoring at the near post. The Reds were left clueless but managed to retake the lead with 10 minutes left in the game through Dominik Szoboszlai.
However, Ao Tanaka scored in the 96th minute to seal a draw for Leeds United, who defeated Chelsea during the week. Liverpool fans were quick to name Konate as the main reason for their loss, with many posting:
Arne Slot also admitted that the penalty gave Leeds United the chance to get back in the game, saying:
"The penalty wasn't a chance, but we made it a chance for them. The only ones to blame is us. We concede these changes. We do so much to create. He tried to do everything to prevent a cross from coming..it is a mistake from hard work, from trying. There was contact, that's for sure."
Talking about the draw, Slot added:
"It's not the first time we drop points, it's not the first time we concede from a set piece, it's not the first time we concede a last minute goal. Everyone can understand the mood."
Liverpool is now 10 points behind league leaders Arsenal after 15 matches in the league this season.
Dominik Szoboszlai on Liverpool's draw against Leeds United
Dominik Szoboszlai spoke to the media after the draw, admitting it hurt because they had been dominating the match. The Liverpool star added that they should have held on after they retook the lead and added:
"I don't know what happened after 2-0. We thought that the game was over. We made sure at the beginning of the game that this is the kind of game you can never underestimate a team like this. Conceding again from a set piece is not the nicest way. After the 2-2 we showed a good reaction. We showed our mentality. Scored a 3-2. As I said, nothing (more) to say about the result."
