Arne Slot admitted that Ibrahima Konate’s performances this season have been riddled with high-profile mistakes after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United. The Frenchman has endured a poor start to the campaign, which has coincided with the Reds’ dismal run of form.

Liverpool were 2-0 up against Leeds after the hour mark at Elland Road and look to get their second win in their last six games. However, Konate handed the hosts a lifeline from the penalty after he brought down winger Wilfried Gnoto inside the area. Dominik Calvert-Lewin assumed responsibility and converted the resulting spot-kick.

Speaking after the game, Slot praised Konate’s efforts in defense but pointed out his error-prone nature, which he believes has been responsible for most of their negative results this season. He told reporters:

“Unfortunately for him he does a lot of things well, but he has been a bit too much at the crime scene, that is something I've heard people saying before in England. That means he's involved in goals we have conceded. But if you are a centre-back that happens in football. Today it was a tackle that came from effort and you try to do everything to block the cross.

“The ball went out, player already went down a little bit and then there was contact, that was obvious and clear that there was contact. Now the question is if the VAR interfered for that. Probably a lot of people will say that's correct. But the same people should look at some games this season where the VAR didn't come in moments like this.”

Despite his constant individual errors, Konate has retained his spot in Slot’s starting lineup, having started every Premier League and Champions League match for Liverpool this season.

Arne Slot admitted being in ‘disbelief’ after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds.

During the post-match press conference, Slot also admitted that he was left in disbelief after seeing his side throw away a two-goal lead to settle for a 3-3 draw at Leeds. Dominik Szoboszlai thought he had won it after restoring Liverpool’s lead in the 80th minute, but Ao Tanaka rescued a point for the newly promoted side at the death.

“There's a sense of disbelief,” Slot told BBC Match of the Day. “I think we played quite well or very well during large parts of the game and we went 2-0 up. I don't think we had any problems and I don't think we conceded a chance until the moment we made a foul, which is not even a chance.”

The result meant Liverpool sit eighth in the Premier League table. They will face Inter Milan away from home in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, December 9.
