Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos picked between the likes of Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, and Luis Figo for the most consistent player of the Galacticos era. He named David Beckham, hailing his contributions all across the pitch.
Roberto Carlos is regarded as one of the greatest left-backs of all time, and he spent 11 years with Real Madrid. He made 527 appearances for them, contributing 69 goals and 117 assists, helping them win numerous trophies. He was part of the Galacticos era, which featured some of football's biggest legends.
In a recent appearance on former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel's Obi One Podcast, Carlos was asked to name the most consistent player of that era. He said:
“In the four years of Galactico, Beckham was the most CONSISTENT. Beckham attacked, defended, passed, things that the media did not see. He was very SPECIAL.”
David Beckham joined Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2003 and spent four years at the club before moving to LA Galaxy. He made 159 appearances for the Spanish giants, recording 20 goals and 52 assists, helping them win numerous trophies.
He and Carlos operated on the opposite flanks but still combined for five goals in the 135 times they shared the pitch.
Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos lauds Ronaldo Nazario's abilities
In his interview with John Obi Mikel, the former Brazilian left-back also spoke about his compatriot Ronaldo Nazario. Regarded by many as the greatest No. 9 of all time, the striker joined Real Madrid from Inter Milan in 2002 and spent five years at the club. He scored 104 goals and provided 34 assists in 177 appearances.
Carlos said about his former teammate:
“We grew up together. It's complicated talking about him. I saw their joys and sorrows with their injuries. The best of our time was him, if he hadn't had so many injuries. Even overweight was the best.”
In an interview with GOAL in 2020, Carlos had hailed 'El Fenonemo' better than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, saying:
"He was the best. There will never be another Ronaldo 'Fenomeno. Not Neymar, Cristiano or Messi, R9 is unique. He's the best. I think in our generation it was harder to score goals. It was more physical back then and attackers were less protected. But Ronaldo could do everything."
The Brazilian duo shared the pitch 278 times for club and country, combining for 19 goals.
