Former England star Theo Walcott believes Chelsea are a threat to Arsenal in the Premier League title race. He believes that the Blues have a disciplinary issue, but are still going to challenge the Gunners afte exposing their weakness.
Speaking on the It’s Called Soccer podcast, Walcott said that Enzo Maresca's side forced the Gunners to make mistakes and capitalize don it. He added that the only issue with the Blues is the amount of red cards they have got this season and said:
"Yes, I think they are [serious challengers]. However, I do feel that the disciplinary problem is a big problem. Like Arsenal last year, they drew too many games and had too many red cards as well. They had people that were kicking the ball away, they obviously had suspensions. Caicedo will be a massive miss for them. However, I do see them as title challengers."
"Being at the game, watching it, I've never seen Arsenal be so vulnerable and I think the fact they were missing there centre-halves was a big factor and Chelsea played into that really well. They really focussed on the weaknesses that Arsenal developed. They caused so many mistakes from Arsenal and that was definitely not normal."
John terry also backed his former side in the title race and said on TikTok last week (via Metro):
"I'm not saying it's going to be a title decider but I think it's going to be one of the two teams [who win the league]. For me, Liverpool are 100 per cent out of the title race. Liverpool look they're really struggling at the moment."
The Blues are six points behind the Gunners after 13 Premier League matches this season. Manchester City sit second in the table, one point ahead of Maresca's side and five behind the leaders.
Chelsea are not the Premier League title race with Arsenal, says Micah Richards
Former Premier League star Micah Richards has insisted that Chelsea are not in the Premier League title race with Arsenal. He believes that Manchester City are the only side capable of catching the Gunners and said on The Rest Is Football podcast:
“I think Chelsea can challenge them, but I don’t think they’ll have enough. I think Man City are still the ones who can challenge them all the way, even though they’re conceding easy goals for their standards. I say that because they’ve got someone like Haaland, who didn’t score against Leeds, but Foden stepped up."
Manchester City drew 1-1 with the Gunners earlier this season. The Cityzens are yet to face the Blues in the league.
