Tennis superstar Carlos Alcaraz has stunned football fans as his predictions for Sunday’s El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona went viral after the game. The Spaniard predicted the scoreline correctly and was close to perfection with his choice of goalscorers.
Real Madrid came out on top in a gripping El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu, defeating Barcelona 2-1. Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham were on target for Los Blancos, while Fermin Lopez scored for the Catalans on the night.
While there were so many talking points in the aftermath of the 262nd El Clasico, Alcaraz’s prediction for the match is currently doing the rounds and getting tongues wagging.
On the eve of the contest, Alcaraz predicted both the scoreline and the goalscorers. In an interview with Eurosport, the world leader in the ATP rankings was asked to preview the clash and responded:
“It’s going to be tough, but I think Real Madrid will win.”
When asked about the goal scorers, Alcaraz went a step further:
“I think Mbappé and Bellingham will score… and Lamine Yamal. It’ll be 2–1,” he predicted.
It turned out that only the Barcelona goalscorer didn’t match Alcaraz’s forecast, as Lopez was the one on the scoresheet for the Catalans, rather than Lamine Yamal, whom he had mentioned.
Marcus Sorg says Barcelona ‘made more mistakes’ than usual after 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid
Barcelona assistant manager Marcus Song admitted that they made more mistakes than they were used to following Sunday’s El Clasico defeat. The German stood in for manager Hansi Flick, who was suspended after receiving a red card last weekend at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
Speaking to the media after the match, Sorg said:
“I think we made more mistakes than we're used to in the end. It's true that we defended very low. In the final third, our penetration didn't allow us to create more chances.”
On if the result was fair, he added:
“In the end, we tried everything. We played with two defenders at the end, but we knew Madrid is very good on the counterattack. And we didn't have enough chances to score a second goal.”
The result meant Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of the LaLiga table. The Whites are on 27 points after 10 matches, while their archrivals are five points behind them in second position.
