Steven Gerrard has claimed that using the word 'crisis' to describe Liverpool's current form would be a disservice to the team, who won the Premier League last season.
After Liverpool's 4-1 loss against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League on November 26, the Englishman gave his verdict about the Premier League club's recent form. He agreed that the Merseyside outfit is failing to produce winning results.
However, the former Liverpool captain claimed that it can only be a crisis later if Liverpool's losing run continues further for the next few months. He said during his recent interview with TNT Sports:
"I think crisis is too strong. That's not good enough. There's no excuses for that at this football club. I think everyone knows that but I think crisis is a very strong word and disrespectful to some of the players that have delivered for this football club and for the manager that's delivered three months ago."
"If this was six months down the line, a year down the line, and we're further away from that sucess, then maybe you can use a word like that, but I won't use the word just yet," he added.
Steven Gerrard admitted that the Reds' confidence is at its lowest as they are going through a terrible run. The former England midfielder also believes that the losing run will continue until the Reds stop conceding and Arne Slot finds the answers to existing issues.
"They're on a terrible run. Confidence is at an all-time low and they just keep bleeding, they keep conceding goals, they're wide open. And unless the manager can find answers and stability in the team, it's going to continue." He added.
The Reds have lost nine out of their last 12 games across all competitions for the first time since the 1953-54 season. Currently 12th in the Premier League and 13th in the UEFA Champions League, the Reds have suffered three consecutive defeats by a margin of three goals for the first time since December 1953.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot provides injury update about Hugo Ekitike
Arne Slot has confirmed that Hugo Ekitike was substituted in the second half against PSV Eindhoven due to a back problem. The French forward was substituted in the 61st minute on Wednesday, as he appeared to be in discomfort.
After the match, Slot confirmed that the Frenchman was facing an issue with his back since the match started. He told TNT Sports in the post-match press release (via Liverpool's official website):
"Especially at the start of the second half, I constantly felt, 'what's wrong with Hugo?' It felt as if he couldn't move as he did (in) the first half. So, that's why our press was, I think, also a little bit off."
"And he just told me that in the first five to 10 minutes of the first half he already felt his back too much. That's also why he had to go out." He added.
Hugo Ekitike, who joined the Reds from Eintracht Frankfurt in July earlier this year, has made 18 appearances for the side across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing one assist.
