Ahead of Manchester United taking on Nottingham Forest on the Premier League, ex-midfielder Roy Keane's old comments on his favourite top-flight side have come to light. The Irishman represented the Red Devils and Forest in his illustrious career but revealed that he does not support either club.

Roy Keane was a key player in Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest team between 1990 and 1993 before heading to Manchester United, where he remained until 2005. Ten years ago, the Daily Mail reported the former midfielder as saying that he feels no affection for either of the sides. He revealed that he was a boyhood Tottenham Hotspur fan, and that they remain his favourite club.

"Just because I played for Manchester United didn't mean I was a fan of the team. When I played for Rockmount, one of my team-mate's fathers used to bring me to training and he supported Tottenham. That's where it started, I liked their players, the likes of Glenn Hoddle and Clive Allen. But after I'd come back from trial at Nottingham Forest, Spurs offered me a trial. I turned it down because Forest had been good to me, I liked the club and felt some loyalty to them. I had a soft spot for Spurs, and still do", he said (via Manchester Evening News).

Keane's former sides will lock horns at the City Ground with the form book making for an interesting reading at the moment. The home side are on their third permanent manager of the season in Sean Dyche and find themselves in the drop zone after a quarter of the Premier League season. The Red Devils, on the other hand, are on a run of three wins in succession, their best form since Ruben Amorim was appointed last November.

Roy Keane will be watching as a neutral on Saturday November 1st as both sides lock horns in the league. He will be keeping an eye out for any news regarding his favourite Premier League club Tottenham, as they will take on Chelsea in London a few hours later.

Manchester United handed boost ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Manchester United have received an injury boost ahead of their Premier League meeting with strugglers Nottingham Forest. The Red Devils are set to have a near-full squad for the clash at the City Ground in what should boost their chances of claiming a fourth successive win.

Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez returned to training for the Red Devils earlier this week following a long-term knee injury, but he will not play against Forest. Ruben Amorim revealed in his press conference that the centre-back is the only confirmed absentee, meaning possible returns for Harry Maguire and Mason Mount.

"He [Martinez] wants to go to this one, he is not going to this one, he is going to take time. He started training with us, but we had to change some things in the exercise for him, so slowly he is going to get better. He is really good, he is really good, and he gives us that edge in every training session, and that is also really good for us. The rest of the guys, we have one more day [of training], I don't know about Harry Maguire. I think the rest is fit", he said (via Manchester Evening News).

Manchester United have lost each of their last three meetings with Nottingham Forest, leaving them desperate to win this time around. With wins against Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton & Hove Albion in recent weeks, the Red Devils will be confident of claiming another win.
