Real Madrid will be without first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for their UEFA Champions League clash against Olympiacos, the club has confirmed. The Belgium international is set to be absent for the game against the Greek outfit after suffering from gastroenteritis in the build-up to the game.

According to the club, Courtois' performance in training on Tuesday warranted an inquiry into his state of health, where it was revealed that he had suffered a viral infection to his gastrointestinal tract. The 33-year-old promptly left the club's training center in Valdebebas and will not travel with the squad to Athens this afternoon.

Thibaut Courtois has been available for every one of Real Madrid's games this season, playing 13 times in LaLiga and four times in the Champions League. He has kept eight clean sheets across those appearances for the Spanish giants, letting in 14 goals.

Xabi Alonso's side will have to turn to reliable deputy Andriy Lunin, who has yet to make his first appearance of the season, when they face Olympiacos. The Ukraine international remarkably has already seen red this season, having been sent off from the bench during the chaos that ensued in October's El Clasico.

The unavailability of Courtois adds to the headache of Alonso, who saw his side steal a point at Elche on Sunday night in LaLiga. He is already without Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, two defensive stalwarts, for the game in Athens, but will hope to guide his side to victory in Greece.

Real Madrid midfielder Franco Mastantuono will be unavailable for the Spanish giants when they travel to face Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League, as per reports. A report from Diario AS has revealed that Mastantuono has returned to training for Real Madrid for the first time this week after his injury. The 18-year-old will not, however, travel to Athens as he has been deemed as not being quite ready to return to first-team action against Olympiacos.

Mastantuono has been absent for the last three games for the Spanish giants, a run that has yielded two draws and a defeat. The former River Plate youngster has been an important player for Xabi Alonso's side this season, appearing 12 times across all competitions.
