Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has shared his thoughts on potentially winning the Premier League title this season. He said that the team is focused on winning one game at a time and not on the early predictions.
The Gunners finished second in the Premier League title race in the last three seasons. Manchester City beat them to the title in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, before Liverpool won it last season. The north London side now sit atop the standings after 11 games, four points above the Cityzens.
Many fans and pundits have hailed Arsenal as the favorites to win the title this season. However, Bukayo Saka has dismissed these early predictions, saying (h/t Tribal Football):
"We just have to win every game, that's the mentality we go into the game (with) and see where it leaves us. We cannot get carried away with what people are saying, because one day they say something and the next day they say something else.
"People's opinion about us changes like the weather. The most important thing is our dressing room, and the foundation and the belief we have in ourselves."
Saka, who's arguably been Arsenal's best player in recent seasons, has scored six goals in 14 games across competitions this season for them.
Gary Neville names Arsenal's closest challengers for Premier League title this season
Current Premier League holders, Liverpool, have struggled this season and have lost seven of their last 10 games across competitions. They are eighth in the table, eight points behind the Gunners at the top.
The Merseysiders lost 3-0 against Manchester City at the Etihad before the international break. This also allowed City to move within four points of the top of the table. Manchester United legend Gary Neville has claimed that the Cityzens are Arsenal's closest challengers for the title this season. He said on the Gary Neville Podcast:
“I thought today was about which of these two clubs was going to emerge as Arsenal’s nearest challengers and could they send a message to the Gunners? Pep Guardiola, in his 1000th game as a manager, his team and his staff, have done that. It’s a really good day for Guardiola and Man City, but it’s a difficult day for Arne Slot and Liverpool.”
After the international break, Liverpool will host Nottingham Forest, and Manchester City will face Newcastle United away on November 22. Meanwhile, the Gunners will host arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby the following day.
