Liverpool fans on social media have called out Ibrahima Konate for his display in their 3-0 loss to Manchester City. Both sides were in action in the Premier League on Sunday, November 9.

Erling Haaland wasted a huge opportunity to give the hosts the lead after Giorgi Mamardashvili saved his penalty in the 13th minute. However, the striker redeemed himself by planting his header into the back of the net to put Manchester City ahead moments later (29’).

Nico Gonzalez doubled the Citizens' lead at the cusp of halftime (45+3’). His effort deflected off Virgil van Dijk and went into the back of the net, making the halftime scoreline 2-0.

In the 63rd minute, Jeremy Doku rifled his effort into the net, leaving Mamardashvili with no chance of saving the ball. Thus, the encounter ended 3-0 in favor of Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Konate won two out of five ground duels contested, made five clearances, but lost possession of the ball six times (via Sofascore). He arguably also failed to properly track Haaland's movement in the build-up to City's opening goal.

After the encounter, fans took to X to criticize Konate for his performance, with one tweeting:

The Reds captain, Virgil van Dijk, has revealed that sharing his opinion on the defeat to Manchester City is meaningless. He likewise suggested that Liverpool needs to improve as the season is still salvageable.

"There is no point discussing this from my point of view. The reality is that we lost 3-0 and that is a big blow. We lost. We have to improve. The season is long and will be a big fight."

Following the loss to Manchester City, the Reds have dropped to eighth position in the Premier League standings. Arne Slot's men have registered 18 points from 11 league games this term.
