Former ATP World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has said that Cristiano Ronaldo is determined to reach 1000 career goals. The 40-year-old has scored over 950 times for club and country.

With 956 goals for club and country, Ronaldo is 60 clear of his closest challenger and arch-rival Lionel Messi. He has scored 40 times this year, a rate if he continues next year could see him scale Mount 1000 in late 2026 or early 2027.

After receiving the inaugural Globe Sports Award by Ronaldo in Dubai on Sunday (December 28), Djokovic said about the Portuguese's seriousness to scale Mount 1000 (as per Sport Bible):

"I love Cristiano's serious look when he said that he will reach 1000 goals. He said that he will reach 1000 goals. He really believes it!"

About the trophy he received from Ronaldo, Djokovic called it a 'dream come true' to receive it from the Portuguese (as per Khaleej Times):

“It’s a great surprise. I am always caught off guard, but in a positive way. Receiving this from Ronaldo is a dream come true. I am thankful to call him a friend and someone who always inspires.”

Novak Djokovic, 38, ended the 2025 season as the World No. 4, winning his 100th singles title during the year - only the third male player to achieve the feat - and becoming the oldest player to reach all four Grand Slam semi-finals.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, is coming off a brace in Al-Nassr's 3-0 Saudi Pro League home win over Al Akhdoud to go four points clear at the top after 10 games.

Having dominated in a competitive sport for over two decades, Djokovic spoke about the trials and tribulations elite sportsmen face and the mutual respect he shares with Ronaldo (as per Khaleej Times):

“We are not part of the same sport, but we push each other. Standing here together and talking about how sport can inspire children around the world is something we look forward to.

“I think people are not aware of the trials and tribulations we face, and some of the words on screen awakened emotions in me. We all aspire to be like our sporting heroes and hold trophies and accolades, but the trials and tribulations people go through are not always seen.”

Novak Djokovic is slated to kickstart his 2026 season at the Adelaide International, while Cristiano Ronaldo will look to break a tie with former Arsenal striker Ronnie Rooke (493) for most goals after turning 30 when Al-Nassr visit Al Ettifaq in the league on Monday.
