Manchester United fans have called out Diogo Dalot and Manuel Ugarte for their performances during their FA Cup third round clash against Brighton & Hove Albion. The duo delivered dismal displays in their respective positions as the Red Devils crashed out of the competition following a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Manchester United started the game on the front foot, with Dalot missing two chances to open the scoring. However, they were made to pay for their wastefulness shortly after when Brajan Gruda took advantage of chaos in the goalmouth and scored from a rebound.

The hosts almost immediately conceded a second when Senne Lammens passed straight to Danny Welbeck, but the Englishman failed to hit the target.

Welbeck eventually scored after the hour mark, smashing his effort into the roof of the net. Benjamin Sesko gave United hope of a fightback after heading home Bruno Fernandes’ corner five minutes from time. However, the Seagulls held on for the remainder of the match.

In addition to missing two great chances, Dalot struggled defensively, and his attacking adventures left United short at the back. Similarly, Ugarte struggled to string passes together and failed to deliver the defensive stability expected of him.

After the match, distraught fans lashed out at both players, with one writing:

“Never want to see Dalot or Ugarte in a United starting line-up ever again.”

Another tweeted:

“Get Dalot and Ugarte out of the team. F**king liabilities.”

Diogo Dalot admits disappointment after Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton

Manchester United’s defeat to Brighton saw them set an unwanted record, exiting both domestic cup competitions at their earliest stage since 1982, following the Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby Town in August. Speaking after the match, Dalot admitted the team were ‘disappointed’ and claimed they deserved to win.

“We created enough to win the game to be honest,” he told TNT Sports. “Then the red card gave us a disadvantage because we were on top of Brighton in the last moments. Overall, very disappointed because we wanted to go through. All the lads kept trying to find spaces, like I said really disappointed because I think we deserved to win.”

Manchester United will now shift their focus to the league and aim to return to Europe at the end of the season. They will face Manchester City in their next outing.
